The Mumbai Indians have announced Luke Williams as the head coach of their women&more about MI full squad lineup for Women Premier League 2027 season. Australia coach takes over after long-serving Lisa Keightley departed following one season in charge
Williams has a lot of history in the franchise and international women’s game. The 46-year-old had earlier been associated with Royal Challengers Bengaluru who was instrumental in their successful WPL campaign in which the team won its first title in 2024.
He also previously coached the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). In his time, the Strikers made two final appearances in the WBBL and claimed their first title in 2022-23. Williams also played a role in the Southern Brave coaching setup for their victorious 2023 Women’s Hundred campaign.
In more recent times, Williams worked as an assistant coach with the England women’s team from 2025. He now returns to WPL with Mumbai Indians where he has been appointed.
Mumbai Indians had a disappointing 2026 WPL campaign, hence the move. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the side secured just 3 wins and finished fourth in the season. Having been surpassed by Williams, the team will be aiming to address that and make big gains ahead of the next event.
I am excited to join forces with my new team Mumbai Indians and fully geared up to shoulder the responsibility of winning along with support staff and players, said Williams. The chance to foster the team and play a successful brand of cricket while being competitive was also pointed out by him.
Having secured the WPL title twice, Mumbai Indians will be hoping that Williams can help them reach the zenith of women’s cricket again by 2027. His prior success in the league combined with experience gained throughout the WBBL, Hundred and return series at international eyes will be a key part of the Franchise’s plans moving into next season.
